We first got together in 2006 and we knew from the start that Nell was terminally ill and that we would be sharing each other's lives interspersed with many trips to hospitals.

She had severe Crohn's Diseae and had had it for 40 years when we first met and was one of the first patients of Professor Herman-Taylor to have an ileostomy (which she had in place for 44 years at the time of her death).

As the years passed we hoped that we would see another month or another Christmas but in the end her time had all run out.

Nothing prepares you for that moment of despair when you make the decision to have someone's life support turned off and it is worse when you deeply love that individual.

Well, this is me, all smart as a new pin with my suit and medals on, following the unveiling ceremony of the new War Memorial in Newark Cemetery in April 2007.

I was the main researcher for the Names of the Fallen and the database will be available for people to use, in the near future.
